Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg) - Chicago, IL
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg)
- Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Schedule: No block scheduling
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Call Requirements: None
- Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 5 days off per month, no more than 2 consecutive days off. No time off allowed on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday.
- Floating: Mandatory float facility; all staff must float within their scope as needed.
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years recent acute care experience in Medical/Surgical nursing
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification (required as of 10/14/2024 for Med Surg and other specialties)
- Certifications Preferred:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Locals Accepted: Yes, locals preferred (must live within 75 miles of the facility)
- Pending License: Not accepted

Required Documentation & Compliance
Background Checks & Verifications
- Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- International background check if applicable (lived/worked internationally in past 7 years)
- Illinois Health Care Worker Registry Search (for aides and nursing assistants only)
Certifications
- ACLS (AHA only) preferred
- BLS (AHA only) required for all nursing and tech positions
- NIH Stroke Certification (annual renewal required)
- Other certifications as applicable by specialty (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, EFM)
Competency Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for starts on/after 4/14/24)
- Color Blind Testing (required for starts on/after 1/16/24)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (for EKG Techs and preferred for ER RNs)
Health Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, updated annually
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination (declination must be within 12 months)
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually (PPD not accepted after 12/15/2025)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (10/01 - 04/01)
Facility-Specific Documents
- Completion of facility-specific HIS forms required for RNs and other roles
- Rules of Behavior acknowledgment
Additional Notes
- References: 2 references within 2 years preferred but not required to start
- Complete application and skills checklist required annually
- Must be legally authorized to work in Illinois and meet all state-specific requirements
