Position Overview

• Role: Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
• Patient Population: Pediatrics
• Experience Required: Minimum 3 years in specialty
• Certifications Required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • State License
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred but not required
• Work Schedule: Every other weekend

Clinical Skills & Equipment

• Experience with special equipment including:

  • CPT machine
  • Volera
  • Metaneb
  • Cough assist
  • Ventilators
  • BiPAP and CPAP
  • Trachs
• Patient Diagnoses commonly encountered:

  • Cerebral Palsy (CP)
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Birth injury
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)
  • Trisomy 21
  • Rett’s syndrome

Requirements & Compliance

• Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
• Background checks: Standard 7-year search including SS Trace, county, nationwide, sex offender registry
• Health documents required:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask (N95) within last year, renewed annually
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Drug screening (9 panel) within 1 year
  • Seasonal flu and COVID vaccines highly recommended but not required; declination forms accepted with masking requirements in patient care areas
• Mandatory training:

  • Child and Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter training
• Competency exams: Medication test/pharmacology and general competency exams with minimum passing scores
• State-specific: Iowa SING Check (criminal, dependent adult, child abuse, sex offender) within 30 days of assignment start

Additional Notes

• Must sign confidentiality and memorandum of understanding documents prior to start
• References: 2 professional references required for travel/allied/per diem acute care roles

This position is ideal for experienced respiratory therapists with pediatric expertise who are comfortable working with complex patient populations and specialized respiratory equipment in a travel contract setting.
