Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU-Oncology

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) in ICU-Oncology
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Average Daily Census: 21 patients; 25 beds total
  • Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks from compliance clearance
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Floating: Yes, within oncology floors, oncology service line, ICUs, with potential to float anywhere
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted within 75-mile radius
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days off per 13-week contract

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years ICU experience (Bone Marrow Transplant experience NOT required)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
  • Certifications Required:
    • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Certifications Preferred: BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing)
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam (Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required)
  • Epic electronic health record experience required
  • On-call: Not required

Skills & Competencies

  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Multi-system organ failure management
  • IV insulin protocols
  • Arterial line management
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line and PICC line care/management
  • Starting IVs and continuous IV sedation
  • Procedural sedation administration
  • Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • BiPAP and ventilator management including suctioning (ETT, NT)
  • High flow nasal cannula care
  • Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
  • Infection prevention and isolation precautions (use of PPE)
  • Phlebotomy (nurses draw own labs)
  • Care of surgical wounds with drains and wound vac
  • Use of Pyxis, SBAR handoff communication
  • Provider support includes interpretation services, IV teams, pharmacy, PT, social services, radiology, respiratory, rapid response teams, patient transport, and unit secretary

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months required (including statewide and nationwide searches)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required quarterly
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required
  • Professional license primary source verification required (Missouri licenses verified via NURSYS)
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be valid throughout assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start required
  • Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (cannot decline in Bone Marrow Transplant Unit)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray with yearly questionnaire
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunities or boosters/declinations as applicable
    • Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene policy, fingernail policy, dress code policy, and orientation modules must be completed prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams required annually, including oncology competency exam for Med Surg-Oncology unit
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)

  • No block scheduling accommodation
  • Floating within scope to meet facility needs is expected
