Position Summary

• Open to Physical Therapist (PT) or Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) candidates.
• Shift: 1st shift / Days
• Hours: 8 hours per day (variable)
• Guaranteed 40 hours per week
• No call or weekend requirements
• Possible float to other Rehabilitation Services departments (unlikely)

Experience Requirements

• Graduate of a Physical Therapy Assistant Program required
• Physical Therapist Assistant experience preferred
• Orthopedic experience highly preferred
• Some neurological experience preferred
• Physical Therapist Assistant license in good standing in Michigan required
• BLS certification required within 3 months of hire

Clinical Duties

• Follow plan of care and goals established by the Physical Therapist
• Provide direct patient care including physical, electrical, mechanical, and heat treatments
• Conduct individual and/or group Physical Therapy activities
• Educate patients, families, and community
• Participate in interdisciplinary team discussions and hospital rounds
• Program development and serving as a resource in areas of expertise
• Participate in student programs and rotations
• Provide in-services for the rehabilitation system
• Cross-train and provide coverage in other rehab departments as needed

Administrative Duties

• Document in electronic health record per compliance timelines
• Communicate documentation limitations to leadership
• Maintain accurate, legible, and complete patient records
• Serve on committees and task forces
• Participate in process improvement initiatives
• Demonstrate time management skills
• Supervise Rehab Clinical Assistants, PTA students, and volunteers

Certifications & Licensure

• Physical Therapist Assistant license valid in Michigan
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA only) required within 3 months of hire
• Other certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) but not specified for this role

Compliance & Background Requirements

• Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18
• Education verification (copy of highest degree or diploma)
• MI LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start
• Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 45 days of start
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Immunizations required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (must include pertussis)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 45 days of start
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
• Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for candidates starting after November 1
• Completion of facility-specific documents such as Code of Conduct, Appearance Standards, and Safety Manual Acknowledgement
