Overview

• Travel/contract RN role in a moderately paced oncology infusion clinic.
• Unit details: 18-chair, 2-room infusion unit.
• Day shift: 4x10s, 0745-1815.
• No weekends, no on-call, no float.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
• Infusion experience with 1 year of experience.
• Infusion experience within the last year.
• BLS issued by American Heart Association.
• ONS/ONCC.
• Skills required:

  • Administration of chemotherapy
  • IV push administration of chemotherapy
  • Management/disposal of cytotoxic spills
  • Monitor chemotherapy
  • Recognize/communicate abnormal lab values
  • Accessing Ports
  • Care and management of ports
  • Central line blood draw
  • Central Line/Implanted Line Care
  • Infusion pump management
  • Intravenous hydration/multivitamins
  • Starting IVs
  • Antiemetic
  • Neupogen
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Extravasation injury
  • IV push narcotic agents
  • Neutropenic precautions
  • Patient/Family education and support
  • Altered mental status
  • Constipation/diarrhea
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Neuropathy
  • Experience with Epic

Preferred

• 2+ years of experience.
• OCN.
• Inpatient oncology.
• Recognize/manage side effects.
• Experience with the following cancer types:

  • Ear/Nose/Throat Cancers
  • Kidney Cancer
  • Leukemia/Blood Dyscrasias

  • Ovarian Cancer/Uterine Cancer

• Body fluid handling post Chemotherapy
• Continuous Infusion of chemotherapy
• Oral Administration of chemotherapy
• PICC line care
• Corticosteroids
• Hormonal therapy
• Acute Tumor Lysis Syndrome (ATLS)
• Hemorrhage
• Sepsis
• Spinal Cord Compression
• Medication tolerance/dependence assessment
• PCA pump management
• Transdermal patches
• Isolation Precautions
• Phlebotomy skills

Additional Details

• 40-hour orientation with 20 hours on the floor.
• Pyxis med system.
• EPIC documentation.
• SBAR communication.
• Caribbean Blue scrubs required; not provided.
