Labor and Delivery RN

Overview

• Travel/contract position in Virginia
• 26-week assignment
• Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• 36 hours per week
• On-call required: 36 hours in a 6-week block

Unit Summary

• Combined obstetric unit covering labor and delivery, postpartum, antepartum, and Level II nursery
• May also support gynecologic/medical overflow, observational triage, mother-baby couplet care, and border babies
• If floated outside the specialty, the nurse will assist using general nursing skills

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Labor and Delivery (1 year of experience)
• Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure
• AWHONN Intermediate
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Experience / Clinical Background

• Experience with obstetric care, including vaginal and cesarean deliveries, antepartum care, postpartum care, and Level II nursery care
• Familiarity with obstetric procedures such as versions, induction of labor, cervical ripening, IUFD care, bereavement care, and cesarean sections

Work Conditions

• Staffing ratios vary by patient type and acuity, including 1:1 for complications or active labor and 1:3/4 for couplet care
