Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Position requires floating to multiple units including NICU, PICU, Emergency Department, Stepdown, and Medical-Surgical as needed.
- Must be willing to comply with facility float expectations and accept appropriate assignments in these areas.
- Prefers candidates with close to 2 years of nursing experience.
Required Qualifications
- Ohio State RN license or Compact RN license.
- Two supervisory/professional references required; one must be from a supervisor or manager (Charge RN acceptable for one reference). Peer references are not accepted.
- Current government-issued photo ID required within 24-48 hours of contract signing (temporary IDs or paper licenses are not acceptable).
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start, including amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, marijuana, methadone, phencyclidine, fentanyl. Drug screen must be initiated within 72 hours of signed contract if within the 60-day window.
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including a 7-year county search and education verification (standalone through National Student Clearinghouse). International background check required if lived/worked internationally in past 7 years.
- Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprinting required within 60 days of start and must be updated for each new contract. Fingerprints must be completed within 24-48 hours of signing.
- Education verification required, including highest degree verification through National Student Clearinghouse or in-house verification if school is unverifiable. Special approval required for nursing diplomas below ASN/BSN.
- State license verification required within 30 days of start.
- Various state-specific registry and abuse registry searches required within 30 days of start.
- Completion of unit-specific skills checklist, updated annually.
Certifications
- ACLS (American Heart Association only; Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted)
- BLS (American Heart Association only)
- PALS (American Heart Association only)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required for NICU RNs
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
- National technical certification verification as applicable
- Certifications must have the legal name matching RN license exactly; no screenshots or photos accepted.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (facility accepts signed Infection Control Policy in lieu of physical exam copy).
- N95 fit testing required within 1 year of start and updated annually. Acceptable masks include specific 3M, Moldex, and Halyard models. Candidates unable to complete prior to start may test onsite but must provide proof of appointment.
- TDAP vaccine required within 10 years of start (must be completed after age 11). Tdap titer not accepted in place of vaccine record.
- TB testing options: Two PPDs (first within 12 months, second within 90 days) or QGOLD/TSPOT within 12 months. For positive results, additional chest x-ray and treatment documentation required. TB testing not required annually unless there is a break in assignment, specialty/unit change, or agency flip.
- Annual TB questionnaire required prior to start.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity required via positive titer or two vaccines; religious exemptions not accepted. If negative or equivocal titer, two boosters required at least 28 days apart.
- Hepatitis B immunity required via completed vaccine series, positive titer, or declination.
- Varicella immunity required via positive titer or two vaccines; if negative/equivocal, two boosters required.
- Seasonal flu vaccine required October 31 – May 31; declination not accepted except for approved medical/religious exemptions with facility review.
- Fit mask documentation and all health documents must be official; screenshots or photos are not accepted.
Additional Notes
- Floating to multiple units is mandatory.
- Legal name on all documents must match RN license and other official records exactly.
- Background checks and license verifications must be completed and approved prior to or within 30 days of start.
- Fingerprinting results may pend at start if facility completes onsite fingerprinting, but appointment must be completed before clearance.
- Candidates undergoing name changes must provide proof and may require case-by-case approval.
- Candidates with approved flu vaccine exemptions must wear masks during designated flu season.
