Registered Nurse – PCU (Pulmonary/GI)

Job Details

• Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
• Schedule: May include every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
• Charting System: Epic experience required
• Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients
• Unit Population: Adults and geriatrics in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with Pulmonary/GI focus; no ventilators on unit
• Floating: Required to float within skillset
• Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
• First-Time Travelers: Accepted
• Locals: Accepted within a specified radius

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
• Experience in an Acute Care setting
• ACLS certification
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Proficient in emergency response and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Background Checks:

  • 7-year background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years (not required annually unless 30+ day break between assignments)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
• Education Verification: Proof of highest earned degree required (transcript or diploma acceptable)
• Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Health Requirements:

  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming freedom from communicable diseases
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Required immunizations or positive titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Annual fit testing for respirator masks (if applicable)
• References: Two clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted)
• Other:

  • Driver’s license/state ID with address within 100 miles of facility required within 48 hours of signing
  • Completion of facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements prior to start
  • Photo for badge required (professional quality, plain background)

Additional Notes

• The unit does not have ventilator patients and may operate without CNA support.
• The facility allows calling off one shift every two weeks.
• Candidates must submit all scheduling requests with their application.
• Orientation manual review is not required for inpatient RNs at this location.
