Registered Nurse – PCU (Pulmonary/GI)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
- Schedule: May include every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
- Charting System: Epic experience required
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients
- Unit Population: Adults and geriatrics in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with Pulmonary/GI focus; no ventilators on unit
- Floating: Required to float within skillset
- Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted
- Locals: Accepted within a specified radius
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Proficient in emergency response and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- 7-year background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years (not required annually unless 30+ day break between assignments)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education Verification: Proof of highest earned degree required (transcript or diploma acceptable)
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming freedom from communicable diseases
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Required immunizations or positive titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Annual fit testing for respirator masks (if applicable)
- References: Two clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted)
- Other:
- Driver’s license/state ID with address within 100 miles of facility required within 48 hours of signing
- Completion of facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements prior to start
- Photo for badge required (professional quality, plain background)
Additional Notes
- The unit does not have ventilator patients and may operate without CNA support.
- The facility allows calling off one shift every two weeks.
- Candidates must submit all scheduling requests with their application.
- Orientation manual review is not required for inpatient RNs at this location.
This position is ideal for RNs with PCU or stepdown experience seeking a night shift travel contract in a Level I Trauma Center with Magnet designation for nursing excellence.
