Operating Room Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Contract Length: 14 weeks

Job Overview

• Work primarily in Operating Room with experience desired in Total Joints, Orthopedic Spine, Gynecology, and Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS).
• Level 1 experience desired plus 3 years recent OR experience.
• Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Staff expected to work across various specialty areas within the OR.
• Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted.

Shift Details

• Day shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (5 days a week, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week)
• Call policy:

  • Weekday call from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM with 40-minute response time.
  • Weekend call from 7:00 AM Saturday through 7:00 AM Monday.
  • Rotating call schedule: 2-3 weekday calls in the first 6 weeks, weekend calls in the next 6 weeks.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky.
• Minimum of 3 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Experience in Orthopedic Surgery.
• Experience in OB/GYN.

Experience Requirements

• At least 3 years recent experience in Operating Room nursing.
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Background and Compliance Requirements

• Background checks including:

  • County criminal background for all locations lived/worked in last 7 years.
  • National criminal and sex offender searches.
  • Education verification or signed official transcript/diploma.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG exclusions checks updated annually.
• Employment verification covering 7 years required.
• Two supervisor references verified within 6 months of start.
• Employment application must explain any gaps longer than 30 days.

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, or PA, confirming good health and ability to perform job duties.
• Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific acceptable mask types required).
• Immunizations/vaccinations required with annual updates or valid exemptions:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray with annual renewal for positives
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines, booster if needed)
  • Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination renewed annually)
  • Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines, booster if needed)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required year-round with exemptions accepted
  • COVID vaccine series or medical/religious exemption required; booster preferred but not mandatory
• Drug testing within 1 year of start, updated annually, with specific drug panels required (rapid drug screen not accepted).

Additional Notes

• Candidates must renew all expiring documents prior to clearance to start or continue assignment.
• Facility-specific policies and agreements must be signed prior to start (e.g., confidentiality, acceptable use, electronic communications, password policy).
• Facility requires completion of various competency exams and skills checklists annually, including unit-specific exams.
• EKG exam must be completed within the first week of booking; failure to pass after two attempts results in cancellation.
• Facility provides EKG Certificate of Completion for new hires; renewals require manager signature and annual upload.
