Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Oncology Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Nights (3 shifts of 12 hours, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Description
- Work on a mixed acuity PCU and MS unit specializing in oncology and bone marrow transplant (BMT) patients.
- Patient diagnoses include various hematologic malignancies and disorders such as:
- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
- Acute Myeloid Leukemia (Adult)
- Amyloidosis
- Aplastic Anemia
- Chronic Leukemia (including CLL and Myeloid Leukemia)
- Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
- Multiple Myeloma
- Myelodysplastic and Myeloproliferative Syndromes
- Special procedures include:
- Autologous, Syngeneic, and Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplants
- CAR-T Therapy
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical and Oncology nursing experience. Hematology-Oncology experience is strongly preferred.
- Proficient in telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias.
- Skilled in:
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- Blood product administration
- Central and peripheral line care, including PICC line management
- Nasal cannula oxygen administration
- Experience with computerized charting systems, specifically EPIC, is required.
Certifications
- Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Preferred:
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification (not required)
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum of 1 year of Hematology/Oncology nursing experience within the last year.
- Medical-Surgical nursing experience.
- Proficient in PICC line management.
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Additional Requirements
- Must complete background checks including EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monthly monitoring.
- Must provide 2 professional references, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Adherence to dress code and hand hygiene policies.
- Completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate prior to start and annually thereafter.
- Annual acknowledgment of ethics and compliance policies.
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually.
Work Schedule & Notes
- Night shift with 12-hour shifts, 3 times per week (36 hours/week).
- If accepting a 12-hour day/night rotating contract, shift assignments may vary between days and nights based on staffing needs and are reviewed every 4 weeks but not guaranteed.

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
