Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse

Location: Dayton, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

• 36-bed Step Down unit specializing in pre- and post-op open heart management including CABG, valve, mitral clip, TAVR, thoracotomy, and lung cases (pneumothorax, hemothorax, chest tube, zephyr valve).
• Advanced cardiac patients on continuous telemetry.
• Targeted patient ratios: 1:4 to 1:6.
• Navy blue scrubs required.

Shift Details

• Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each).
• Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Ohio (primary source verification required).
• Minimum 1.5 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
• ACLS certification.
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior travel nursing experience preferred.

Floating & Other Requirements

• Floating to other specialty clusters or units (including high-risk respiratory/COVID units) may be required at employer discretion.
• Floating locations may include main campus and nearby satellite campuses within 15 miles.
• Employer reserves the right to cancel shifts due to low census with notice.
• Travel nurses are not eligible for employee incentives.

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Current Ohio RN license (primary source verification required).
• BLS (AHA only).
• ACLS (AHA only).
• NIH Stroke Certification (required within 12 months prior to start and updated annually).
• Must complete Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam within 1 year of start or within 72 hours of contract signing (3 attempts allowed).
• Other certifications as applicable to the role and unit.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required.
• E-Verify and I-9 documentation required prior to start.
• 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months prior to start. No open or pending cases accepted.
• Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 12 months prior to start, including marijuana panel.
• Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases.
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray documentation required; annual TB questionnaire if past positive.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
• Respiratory safety clearance required within 1 year of start and renewed annually.
• Two professional references required within 2 years of start (one must be a manager/supervisor/charge nurse).
• Current resume/application required.
• Skills checklist updated within 1 year prior to start.
• Work history verification may be required if references are not available.

Additional Notes

• Request for time off (RTO) must be submitted with initial application; no RTO added after offer.
• RTO approval is at manager’s discretion.
• All overtime for shifts over 48 hours is billed at 48 hours.
