Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular Unit (Telemetry)
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Unit: Cardiovascular Unit - Telemetry (3N)
- 54-bed cardiac telemetry unit
- Patient population includes heart failure, heart attack (STEMI and NSTEMI), stroke (requiring cardiac monitoring), cardiac arrhythmias, chest pain, and occasional overflow medical patients
- Patients are monitored remotely and on the unit, including cardiac drips
Schedule & Workload
- Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts (07:00 - 19:30)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 holidays
- Call: None
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
- Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed but managers will try to accommodate
- Nurse-to-patient ratio may increase to 1:7 temporarily due to workload and onboarding of new travelers
Experience & Certifications
- Required Experience: Minimum 1 year
- First-time travelers accepted
- Required Certifications:
- ACLS (AHA only)
- BLS (AHA only)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification (required for all RNs)
Housing & Location
- Travelers must live at least 50 miles away from the facility (locals not accepted)
Charting & Uniform
- Charting system: Cerner Powerchart
- Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background check covering last 7 years and all states lived/worked in, required within 90 days of start and annually thereafter
- Education verification or copy of diploma/transcripts required
- Physical exam required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (T-Spots not accepted)
- Drug screen: Negative 12-panel drug test within 30 days of start (instant accepted if needed for quick start)
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious declination required prior to start
- COVID vaccine medical exemption allowed with proper documentation
- Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement and photo for badge required
- Completion of facility modules (~8-10 hours) prior to start is required and paid
Additional Notes
- On-site EKG exam required for Monitor Techs (not RN-specific but related to unit)
- The unit is actively hiring additional support to help ease workload
- Candidates should plan for module completion and compliance documentation before start date
This position is ideal for RNs with telemetry experience who are comfortable managing cardiac patients and working in a fast-paced cardiac telemetry environment.
