Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbus, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks

Patient Population

• Adults to Geriatrics

Unit & Work Environment

• Patient Ratio: 1:6
• Unit Beds: 24
• Unit Systems: Epic, Pyxis, SBAR
• Scrub Color: Navy Blue
• Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of practice as needed
• Weekends: Every other weekend
• Call: None
• Holidays: Expected to work major holidays if they fall during assignment (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day)

Required Experience

• Minimum 1 year of specialty experience (1st time travelers accepted)

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Certification (refer to unit description for requirement)

Preferred/Additional Certifications (may be required depending on specialty/unit)

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)

Required Licensure

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for the state of Georgia

Skills & Clinical Focus

• Experience with Stroke, Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), Subdural Hematoma (SDH), Elective Spinal Surgeries, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Orientation & Compliance

• Return to Orientation (RTO) required within 7 days of assignment start
• Full compliance with onboarding and credentialing required to start on time
• Non-billable orientation hours depend on contract length

Testing & Competencies

• Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required by agency)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Telemetry, Step-down, ICU, ER, and similar units)
• Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
• Competency Exam (required by agency)

Health & Background Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months of start
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
• TB Questionnaire updated annually
• Immunizations or titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
• Flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
• Background check required within 30 days of start
• Education verification required (degree related to nursing)
• References: 2 clinical references required by agency
• Work history verification of most recent employer required

Additional Notes

• Locals accepted at the same rate
• Floating within facility as needed
• No call requirements
• Must be prepared to work assigned holidays as outlined
• Candidate must review and sign facility policies on code of conduct and professional appearance prior to start

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
• Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
