Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU/Stepdown

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 10 weeks


Position Overview

Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Stepdown unit. This role involves providing specialized nursing care to patients requiring telemetry monitoring and stepdown care.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in PCU/Telemetry nursing, including experience within the last year
  • Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and telemetry monitoring
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Proficient with Epic electronic health record system

Additional Details

  • First-time travel nurses are welcome.
  • Local candidates within 75 miles considered with adjusted pay.
  • Orientation sessions held bi-weekly.
  • Weekend shifts are required.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background checks including SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, and international searches if applicable.
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen (including THC) within 30 days of start.
  • Health requirements:
    • Physical exam within 12 months
    • Immunizations and titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Polio vaccine or attestation
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes
    • Seasonal flu vaccination (declinations not accepted)
  • Professional references: 2 required, with at least 1 supervisor reference from employment within the last 12 months.
  • Employment application and skills checklist updated annually.
  • Competency exams and unit-specific training required.

Notes for Candidates

  • Must set up a guest account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems.
  • Candidates must complete all required online modules before orientation.
  • Competency checklists must be completed within 3 weeks after start date.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training provided during orientation if applicable.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized PCU/Stepdown environment with a supportive orientation and clear scheduling expectations.
