NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week (12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a Level 4 surgical NICU caring for patients from 23 weeks gestation up to 1 year old.
- Patient diagnoses include PPHN, bowel perforation or NEC, BPD, tracheostomy/G-button evaluations, pre-op cardiac anomalies, gastroschisis, hydrocephalus, and others.
- Primary assignment in NICU with first float responsibilities to PICU, CCU, or med-surg floors caring for patients with similar skill sets.
- Contract requires three 12-hour shifts per week with one additional shift every 3 weeks during high census periods.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Compliance and Background Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Background checks including:
- 7-year criminal history check (covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years).
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
- Education verification (transcript or diploma acceptable).
- State-specific registry search (Nebraska DHHS Adult & Child Services Registry) within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start.
- National tech certification verification within 30 days of start.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam completed within 12 months prior to start, performed by MD, DO, PA, NP, or APRN.
- Fit mask test (specific mask types) within 12 months prior to start.
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap vaccine
- Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD) within 12 months; positive TB requires additional documentation.
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters or exemptions accepted with proper documentation.
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer or completed vaccine series; no declinations allowed except approved medical or religious exemptions.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines, positive titer, or history of disease; boosters or exemptions accepted with documentation.
- Seasonal flu vaccine required for new starts beginning 10/1/2025; exemptions allowed with agency-approved documentation.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen including THC within 12 months prior to start; instant tests accepted.
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references within 2 years of start date.
- Annual skills checklist and unit competency exam required.
- Completion of facility-specific Cognito form at least 6 business days before start date.
- Employment application and verification handled by credentialing team; no 7-year work history needed.
Summary
This is a night-shift travel contract for an experienced NICU RN in a high-acuity Level 4 NICU setting. The role requires flexibility to float to related pediatric units, strong neonatal critical care skills, and compliance with extensive credentialing, immunization, and competency requirements.
