Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse

Location: Tucson, Arizona
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
  • Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend, 4 weekend shifts per contract
  • Float: Will float within scope of practice
  • Electronic Medical Record System: EPIC required
  • Orientation Dates: Scheduled prior to assignment start

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Arizona
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system

Certifications & Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score 80%+)
  • HIPAA Competency (updated annually, passing score 80%+)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certificate
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required on specific units during orientation
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM)

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by physician, NP, or PA
  • Fit testing for N95 mask within 1 year of start (PAPR allowed onsite)
  • Immunizations and/or titers required with no declinations accepted for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B vaccine or positive titer (declinations allowed with signed form)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within past 10 years (declinations allowed except for select pediatric and maternity units)
  • Negative TB test (QuantiFERON Gold, Tspot, or PPD) within 3 months of start, renewed annually
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30) or approved medical/religious exemption with facility-specific form
  • 12-panel drug test within 30 days of start, must be started within 72 hours of booking

Background & Documentation

  • Background check must be completed and cleared prior to start, including:
    • 7-year history including Pima County, AZ
    • National Sex Offender Search
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Two professional references from employment within last 3 years required; one must be supervisory
  • Employment application with last 7 years of work history; gaps over 30 days must be explained
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Facility-specific job description and orientation sign-off required

Additional Notes

  • No local candidates accepted for this assignment
  • Orientation attendance is mandatory on specified dates
  • Candidates must be prepared for pass/fail testing during orientation; failure may result in contract review or cancellation
