Job Opportunity: LVN / LPN - Medical Surgical
Location: Auburn, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Acute care experience required
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (option for 4x12 with no overtime until after 52 hours)
- Guaranteed hours: 36 per week (unless signing up for 4x12 shifts)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend and every other holiday
- Floating as needed per facility requirements
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid LPN / LVN license in New York
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) training
- Medication administration
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
- Peripheral line care/management
- Nasal cannula use
- Oxygen administration including oxygen tanks
- Non-invasive airway management
- Isolation precautions
Required Licenses and Certifications
- New York State LVN/LPN License
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- 8 hours of stroke education (NIH Stroke Scale training may count toward this)
Additional Requirements
- Background check within 1 year covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by a licensed provider
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity (2 MMR vaccines or serologic titers)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
- Varicella immunity (2 vaccines, positive titer, or documented history)
- Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccine records or declination
- 9 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days of start
- Professional references: 2 within last 3 years
- Skills checklist required
- New York State Nurse Aide Registry verification
- New York State Medicaid Exclusion List check
Orientation and Testing
- Pass/fail telemetry assessment on first day of orientation (minimum 80% on 15-question test) covering cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific documents including code of conduct, patient abuse reporting, confidentiality, orientation packet, and automated dispensing cabinet security
Work Environment Notes
- No telemetry technicians employed; nurses responsible for telemetry strip interpretation
- Call-off policy: maximum 3 shifts per 13-week assignment
- Automatic disqualification if no hits on nursing license verification
