Job Opportunity: LVN / LPN - Medical Surgical

Location: Auburn, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Acute care experience required
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (option for 4x12 with no overtime until after 52 hours)
  • Guaranteed hours: 36 per week (unless signing up for 4x12 shifts)
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend and every other holiday
  • Floating as needed per facility requirements

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid LPN / LVN license in New York
  • Minimum 1 year of Med Surg experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) training
  • Medication administration
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Peripheral line care/management
  • Nasal cannula use
  • Oxygen administration including oxygen tanks
  • Non-invasive airway management
  • Isolation precautions

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • New York State LVN/LPN License
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • 8 hours of stroke education (NIH Stroke Scale training may count toward this)

Additional Requirements

  • Background check within 1 year covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start
  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by a licensed provider
  • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years or declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity (2 MMR vaccines or serologic titers)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
    • Varicella immunity (2 vaccines, positive titer, or documented history)
    • Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
    • COVID vaccine records or declination
  • 9 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days of start
  • Professional references: 2 within last 3 years
  • Skills checklist required
  • New York State Nurse Aide Registry verification
  • New York State Medicaid Exclusion List check

Orientation and Testing

  • Pass/fail telemetry assessment on first day of orientation (minimum 80% on 15-question test) covering cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Candidate must review and sign facility-specific documents including code of conduct, patient abuse reporting, confidentiality, orientation packet, and automated dispensing cabinet security

Work Environment Notes

  • No telemetry technicians employed; nurses responsible for telemetry strip interpretation
  • Call-off policy: maximum 3 shifts per 13-week assignment
  • Automatic disqualification if no hits on nursing license verification
