Job Opportunity: Medical Technologist
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Must have a BS in Medical Technology or related field with 1 year of clinical rotations in a Medical Technology school.
- Recent dedicated Blood Bank experience required (generalist experience does not qualify).
- Minimum 4 years of Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) experience required.
- Strong blood bank experience is essential.
- Work hours: 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM.
- Responsibilities include working in Blood Bank and Transfusion.
- Every third weekend shift (Friday/Saturday) required.
- No on-call duties.
- Experience with Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) and Level 1 Trauma patients is highly preferred.
- Experience with Softbank and EPIC systems is highly preferred.
- ASCP certification preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Medical Technology or a related field, with one year of clinical rotations completed within a Medical Technology school.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Medical Technologist.
- Medical Technologist experience within the last year.
- Recent dedicated Blood Bank experience (generalist experience does not qualify).
- Strong blood bank skills.
- ASCP certification preferred.
Work Schedule
- Shift: 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM
- Every third weekend (Friday/Saturday) required
- No on-call
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of identity (Government Issued Photo ID).
- Background check within 30 days of start, including criminal, alias, and employment history.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per health requirements.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming ability to perform job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Immunization and health document compliance including:
- Influenza vaccination or approved exemption.
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination compliance.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity.
- Varicella immunity.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years.
- Fit test and respiratory clearance if job tasks require respirator use.
- Color vision testing if job tasks require color discrimination.
- Completion of required competencies and certifications as applicable.
Certifications & Competencies
- ASCP certification preferred.
- Compliance with all required health and safety certifications.
- Completion of competency exams including medication and blood bank related competencies.
- Annual education and safety training acknowledgments.
- Other certifications as applicable to the role and facility requirements.
References & Work History
- Two professional references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history.
- Work history verification as required by state regulations.
