Overview

Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) position in a laboratory setting. The opening exists to cover the lab while a new lab information system is tested and on-site staff are trained.

Required Qualifications

• Medical Lab Scientist experience within the last year
• 2 years of Medical Lab Scientist experience
• ASCP
• Experience in the blood bank

Preferred

• Travel experience

Responsibilities

• Conduct medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analyses following established accreditation guidelines and quality control standards
• Determine normal and abnormal components of body fluids through chemical analyses of blood, urine, spinal fluids, and gastric juices
• Analyze blood cells using microscopic techniques and procedures
• Prepare blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusions through blood group, type, and compatibility tests
• Ensure operation of laboratory equipment through calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, inventory management, and evaluation of new equipment and techniques
• Maintain laboratory supplies inventory
• Provide medical technology information by answering questions and requests
• Prepare reports of technological findings
• Work in compliance with QA/QI standards
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment and follow infection-control, hazardous waste, and other policies and protocols
• Recognize problems, identify causes, and implement solutions where appropriate
• Perform other related duties as required and directed
