Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: California City, California
Employment Type: Travel Health Services
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care including executing provider orders, administering medications, assisting in examinations and treatments, and applying nursing and supervisory techniques in the care and treatment of inmates/residents. Responsibilities include attending sick calls, operating pill call, documenting medication administration, assessing and referring inmates/residents as needed, performing emergency procedures, and coordinating professional medical services.


Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor inpatient hospitalizations for early releases as appropriate
  • Supervise and guide licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff
  • Maintain good working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies
  • Use sound independent judgment while adhering to corporate, facility, and correctional policies
  • Evaluate medical service provision to prevent inappropriate use or duplication
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of medical records
  • Assist with medical file reviews to ensure documentation of services
  • Monitor potential catastrophic illnesses closely
  • Audit pharmacy use for formulary adherence and comply with pharmacy laws, especially controlled substances
  • Observe and record inmate/resident behavior
  • Inspect medical unit for contraband and safely store or dispose of supplies and equipment
  • Provide health counseling and education individually or in groups
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining various medical and operational records and reports
  • Interpret medical, technical, regulatory, and legal documents
  • Respond to lawsuits and attend court hearings as necessary
  • Facilitate accreditation processes (NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO) by providing efficient and appropriate medical services
  • Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports and take action in serious incidents and emergencies

Required Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program with a degree or diploma in nursing
  • Valid driver's license
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional nursing experience
