Maternal Fetal Ultrasound Sonographer II

Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina Employment Type: Clinical-Allied Contract Length: 3 months Shift: Days, 10 hours per day, 40 hours per week

Job Summary

Independently operates advanced diagnostic ultrasound equipment to evaluate and document complex obstetric and gynecologic conditions. Work includes comprehensive fetal assessments in all trimesters (fetal echocardiography, detection of fetal anomalies, and evaluation of high-risk pregnancies), gynecologic imaging, and real-time ultrasound guidance for invasive obstetric procedures.

Responsibilities

• Performs maternal-fetal and gynecologic ultrasound examinations under general or direct supervision, including fetal anatomical surveys, fetal well-being evaluations (biophysical profiles, Doppler studies, amniotic fluid assessments), maternal pelvic imaging with transvaginal cervical assessment, advanced volume imaging, and fetal echocardiography.
• Supports Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialists in complex invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under ultrasound guidance.
• Reviews patient history for contraindications, consults with patients, and ensures they are informed and prepared.
• Acquires and analyzes high-quality sonographic images and Doppler waveforms, and communicates findings to the supervising physician.
• Recognizes abnormalities or urgent conditions requiring immediate review by the MFM specialist.
• Provides training and clinical support to physician learners (Ob/Gyn residents and MFM fellows) and non-physician learners (ultrasound, medical students, and advanced practice trainees).
• Supports new-hire onboarding as requested.

Required Qualifications

• Two (2) years of Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonography experience, with recent experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification
• American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Registered in OB
• ARDMS Registered in OB GYN
• Completion of a diagnostic medical sonography program or a general ultrasound program
• Familiarity with fetal echocardiography
• Familiarity with MCA Dopplers
