Unit Information

• Location: Corpus Christi Medical Center, 2 West, Doctors Regional building
• Unit Type: Medical/Surgical
• Number of Beds: Typically 8, can flex up to 12 based on hospital census
• Staffing:

  • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 1 RN, 1 PCA
  • Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 1 RN, 1 PCA
• Patient Ratios: Maximum 6:1
• Equipment: Standard medical equipment
• EMR System: Meditech

Job Requirements

• Experience:

  • Must have at least 1 year of acute med/surg experience within the last year
  • Ability to care for 4-6 patients simultaneously
• Preferred:

  • 2+ years acute med/surg experience within the last year
  • Background in ortho or neuro-surgery

Typical Procedures

• Care of medical/surgical patients
• Standard nursing skills including:

  • IV insertions
  • Urinary catheter insertion and maintenance
  • Central line maintenance
  • Medication administration
  • Communication with care team members
  • Documentation in EHR

Certifications & Requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Floating to other med/surg units as needed

Work Environment

• Dress Code: Scrubs
• Schedule: Normally rotating weekends; on-call as needed for travel RNs
