Position Details

  • Shift: Nights (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
  • Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36 or 48 (must be specified on submission)
  • Number of Openings: 1

  • Patient Ratios: Typically 4:1; may vary during surge or other circumstances
  • Unit Beds: 68
  • EMR System: EPIC

Licensure & Certifications

  • Required Licensure: Current RN license eligible or active in Missouri
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) — from American Heart Association only
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) — may be submitted without but must be obtained prior to start

Experience Requirements

  • Years of Experience:
    • Minimum 1 year in Emergency Department at a Level 1 Trauma Center OR
    • 2 years in a Level 2 Trauma facility (must be indicated on resume)
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Trauma and pediatric experience
    • High acuity environment with 200+ patients per day
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care for all age groups including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments to optimize outcomes and comfort
  • Maintain professional accountability and patient confidentiality
  • Work within the scope of nursing practice and applicable state regulations
  • Utilize nursing process and Mercy Service Standards in care delivery

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Busy urban Level 1 Trauma, Stroke, STEMI, and Regional Burn Center
  • Stand and walk most of the shift
  • Lift and push patients on stretchers and wheelchairs
  • Physical demands include pushing, pulling, gripping up to 50 lbs, pinching up to 15 lbs, minimal kneeling, crouching, and crawling
  • Work area is typically clean and air-conditioned

Additional Information

  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for travel period November 1 - April 1 (declinations not accepted)
  • No block scheduling available
  • Night shift orientation occurs on day shift and requires full week availability
  • Dress code: Black scrubs; unprofessional attire such as jeans not allowed
  • Personality fit: Determined, decisive, flexible
