Job Description

Seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician with experience in Med-Surg and inpatient rehabilitation. This role supports adult patients requiring inpatient rehabilitative services for conditions such as stroke, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations, complex orthopedic injuries, and other high-acuity needs.

The facility is a 49-bed acute inpatient rehabilitation hospital offering specialized physical medicine and rehabilitation programs. The environment functions similarly to a medical-surgical unit with high patient acuity.

Work Schedule & Environment

• Shift: 12-hour shifts

  • Day shift: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM
  • Night shift: 6:00 PM – 6:30 AM
• Weekend Hours: Every other weekend for travel staff
• Holiday rotation as appropriate
• Call Requirements: Yes
• Patient Ratios:

  • Day shift: 1:8-10
  • Night shift: 1:10-12 (based on acuity)
• Equipment used includes mobility aids (ceiling lifts, slide boards), vital sign machines, blood glucose monitors, and computers for charting.
• Electronic Health Record system: EPIC (minimum 13 weeks EPIC experience required)

Patient Population

• Adults requiring inpatient rehabilitation services with high acuity needs
• Common diagnoses include spinal cord injuries, amputations, stroke, traumatic brain injuries, post-craniotomy care, hypertension, diabetes management, feeding tube care, tracheostomy care, wound care including wound vacs, and oxygen therapy.

Required Qualifications

• Valid CNA license in Wisconsin
• Minimum 2 years of CNA experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience in inpatient rehabilitation and rehabilitation settings
• Med-Surg experience and medical unit experience
• Minimum 2 years of experience in skilled nursing or other 24/7 skilled care units
• Minimum 13 weeks of EPIC electronic medical record experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

Preferred Skills

• Experience in Med-Surg, ICU, or Orthopedics
• Familiarity with insulin protocols, feeding tube and swallowing precautions, Foley catheter care, PICC lines, IV starts, trach care, isolation precautions, and extensive wound care

Additional Information

• Float requirements: Not currently required, but may be needed to float to a nearby satellite inpatient rehab facility within 20 minutes in the future
• Dress code: Scrubs of any color allowed; no hooded sweatshirts, hair bonnets, or non-healthcare-related graphic shirts
• Attendance and tardy policies strictly enforced
• Breaks: Two paid 15-minute breaks and one unpaid 30-minute break per 12-hour shift; staff must clock out for the 30-minute break
• Local candidates are not accepted for this travel position
