Registered Nurse - Step Down

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 (must be specified on submission)
Weekend Hours: Every other weekend as required
Call Requirements: None


Unit Information

  • Specialty: Cardiac Stepdown

  • Equipment: Chest tubes, Temporary Pacemakers, Bipaps
  • EMR System: EPIC
  • Patient Types: Post-op CABG/Valve, Thoracotomies, Respiratory Failure, Chest Pain

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year in an inpatient setting
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Utilize the nursing process for patients post trauma, surgical interventions, and medical comorbidities
  • Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments
  • Maintain patient rights and confidentiality
  • Float to similar or lower acuity units as needed
  • Follow professional accountability and facility standards

Physical and Work Environment

  • Stand and walk most of the shift
  • Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
  • Ability to push, pull, grip up to 50 lbs, pinch up to 15 lbs, kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids
  • May work varying schedules and shifts based on patient care needs

Additional Information

  • Flu vaccination required November 1 - April 1; declinations not accepted
  • Night shift orientation occurs on day shift; availability for full orientation week required
  • Dress code: All black scrubs (Mercy logo not included here per instructions), no hoodies, jackets without logo, t-shirts, open-toed shoes, earbuds, or fake nails
