Radiology Specialist Assistant

Job Description

The Radiology Specialist Assistant provides patient care under physician supervision, delivering age-appropriate care across the lifespan. This role supports the continuum of care through clinical expertise, patient assessment, and collaboration with the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide medical services within scope of practice and assigned privileges
• Perform patient assessments using age-specific growth and development principles
• Assist supervising physician with radiologic procedures and patient management
• Maintain patient flow and organize clinical workload effectively
• Provide guidance and direction to clinical staff involved in patient care
• Respond appropriately to emergency situations
• Ensure compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws, hospital policies, and regulatory standards
• Maintain confidentiality of protected health information (PHI)
• Perform fluoroscopic procedures, including barium studies (upper GI series, small bowel follow-through, enemas)
• Perform joint injections under fluoroscopic or ultrasound guidance
• Conduct paracentesis and thoracentesis procedures with imaging guidance and post-procedure monitoring
• Place abscess drains using ultrasound or CT guidance with sterile technique
• Perform bone marrow biopsies, including site preparation and specimen collection
• Perform biopsies with ultrasound and CT guidance for various tissues and organs, following protocols to minimize complications

Required Qualifications

• Appropriate licensure for Radiology Specialist Assistant role (as per state and specialty requirements)
• Ability to perform advanced radiologic procedures under supervision
• Knowledge of sterile technique and imaging guidance procedures
• Competence in patient assessment across all age groups
