Radiology Specialist Assistant
Location: Watertown, New York
Specialty: Radiology Department
Shift: 8-hour day shift (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
The Radiology Specialist Assistant provides patient care under physician supervision, delivering age-appropriate care across the lifespan. This role supports the continuum of care through clinical expertise, patient assessment, and collaboration with the healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide medical services within scope of practice and assigned privileges
- Perform patient assessments using age-specific growth and development principles
- Assist supervising physician with radiologic procedures and patient management
- Maintain patient flow and organize clinical workload effectively
- Provide guidance and direction to clinical staff involved in patient care
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations
- Ensure compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws, hospital policies, and regulatory standards
- Maintain confidentiality of protected health information (PHI)
- Perform fluoroscopic procedures, including barium studies (upper GI series, small bowel follow-through, enemas)
- Perform joint injections under fluoroscopic or ultrasound guidance
- Conduct paracentesis and thoracentesis procedures with imaging guidance and post-procedure monitoring
- Place abscess drains using ultrasound or CT guidance with sterile technique
- Perform bone marrow biopsies, including site preparation and specimen collection
- Perform biopsies with ultrasound and CT guidance for various tissues and organs, following protocols to minimize complications
Required Qualifications
- Appropriate licensure for Radiology Specialist Assistant role (as per state and specialty requirements)
- Ability to perform advanced radiologic procedures under supervision
- Knowledge of sterile technique and imaging guidance procedures
- Competence in patient assessment across all age groups
