Job Details

  • Location: Yuma, Arizona
  • Specialty: Emergency Room (ER)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM
  • Start Date: May 4 (start dates are not flexible)
  • Scheduling:
    • Varied shift start times (7 AM, 10 AM, 11 AM, 12 PM, 1 PM, 3 PM)
    • Modified self-scheduling
    • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week block
    • Holiday requirement: Typically 2 shifts (including eves)
    • No blocked scheduling requests
    • No more than 5 days of return to office (RTO) allowed

Unit Information

  • Level 3 trauma center (ER operates like Level 1)
  • Trauma bays: 4
  • Total beds: 52
  • Average patients treated per day: 200
  • Fast track beds: 6
  • Separate triage area with two quick-look zones using ESI
  • ER holds are intermixed within the ER (no separate holding area)
  • No seclusion rooms for psychiatric patients
  • Security present in ER 24/7
  • Charge nurse not assigned; House Supervisor available for assistance
  • Support staff includes ED techs (2+ years experience), PCAs (less than 2 years experience), respiratory therapists (RT) 24/7
  • RT equipment includes Glidescope, Hamilton and Phillips ventilators
  • Dedicated CT and X-ray in ER with transport team; RN accompanies critical patients
  • Phlebotomy done by ED techs or RNs draw labs from IV starts
  • RN responsible for reading telemetry; monitor techs also present

Patient Population & Care

  • Treats all emergency needs including trauma, STEMI, and stroke receiving (stroke interventions are transferred out)
  • Common drips: ICU-level drips for hold patients with ICU support available
  • ED staffed with physicians, mid-level providers, and pediatric board-certified providers on varied shifts

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of recent ER experience at a Level I or II trauma center within the past 3 years (Level III or Critical Access Hospital experience not accepted)
  • Certifications required:
    • ACLS
    • BLS
    • PALS
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • TNCC certification preferred
  • Epic EMR proficiency required and must have recent experience using it
  • Must be able to float occasionally to a nearby freestanding ER (approximately 15-minute drive) with typically scheduled shifts and infrequent last-minute floating

  • 100-mile radius travel rule applies
  • Orientation includes one day of new employee orientation, one day clinical/EPIC training, and one day on the floor
  • Uniform scrub color: Navy Blue
