Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
Seeking RNs to float between Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Telemetry (Tele), and Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) units. The role involves caring for inpatients across multiple units and campuses, including holding patients in the Emergency Department.
Unit/Department Details
- Float Pool Units: MedSurg, Telemetry, PCU (including stepdown and ICU patients)
- Typical Patient Types: Geriatric, orthopedic, post-procedural cardiac patients (post-MI, post-cardiac cath, CABG post-op days 3-4)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- PCU: 1:4
- MedSurg/Telemetry: 1:5-6
- Nurse Aids: Utilized in all settings
- Respiratory Therapy Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, Heated High Flow (primarily in PCU and MedSurg)
- Telemetry: Monitor techs monitor PCU and MedSurg Telemetry units; RNs must be able to interpret cardiac strips
Shift & Scheduling
- Shift Hours: 7 AM – 7 PM (AM and PM shifts)
- Scheduling: Float pool scheduler creates schedule, published 6 weeks in advance for 4 weeks at a time
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Included in permanent staff rotation
- Call/Standby: None
- Unit Assignment Notification: Via text message 2 hours before shift start
- Travel Between Campuses: Approximately 20-25 minutes
Required Qualifications
- Licensure: Current Arizona RN license
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years in MedSurg and Telemetry combined
- Minimum 1 year in PCU setting
- Certifications: BLS and ACLS required
- Exams: Must pass dysrhythmia exam with at least 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing
- Skills:
- Comfortable titrating drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Insulin
- Ability to interpret cardiac monitor strips
- Prior Travel Experience: Not specified (no requirement indicated)
Additional Information
- Orientation:
- 8-hour general hospital orientation day
- 12-hour shifts orientation at West MedTele and PCU units
- Dress Code: Solid color professional scrubs; transitioning to navy scrubs in October
- Restrictions: Candidates may not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN within the past year at any affiliated facilities within a 50-mile radius
- Charge Nurse: Present on each unit but does not take patient assignments
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with a variety of acute care settings and flexible scheduling, who enjoy working across multiple units within a hospital float pool.

Cost of living is High, roughly $2000-2500 for your own private space. Float between East and West Campus, 25 minutes apart, west will likely be where you spend 75% of your shifts so pick your housing accordingly.
