Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Clinical Support Unit (Critical Care)

Location: Boise, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Float Pool Information

  • Float Pool includes multiple units across three facilities (Boise, Meridian, Nampa):
    • Emergency Room (ER)
    • Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
    • Medical-Surgical (MedSurg)
    • Telemetry (Tele)
    • Labor & Delivery / Postpartum (L&D/PP)
    • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • RNs float only within their specialty and never to a lower acuity unit.
  • May float to any facility to serve as a 1:1 sitter in any area.
  • ER specifics: Meridian ER is busiest but no trauma; Boise ER handles pediatric trauma.
  • ICU: 4 total across facilities, generally lower acuity patients.
  • MedSurg: 6 units total across facilities.
  • Tele: 4 units total across facilities.
  • L&D/PP: Includes L&D, Mother Baby, Postpartum, and LDRP units depending on location.
  • NICU: Primarily feeder growers for travelers.

Nurse:Patient Ratios

  • ER: 1:4
  • ICU: 1:1 to 1:2
  • MedSurg: 1:5
  • Telemetry: 1:4
  • Pediatrics: 1:3
  • NICU: 1:4

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – required for all units
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – required for ER, ICU, and Telemetry
  • Additional certifications mentioned: NIHSS, TNCC (trauma certification)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in specialty required
  • Prior travel experience required (must have completed at least one prior travel contract)
  • L&D travelers: Antepartum and Mother Baby experience highly preferred

Clinical Responsibilities

  • RNs will be required to titrate drips in ICU, ER, Telemetry, MedSurg, and PICU units
  • Common titratable drips include insulin on MedSurg units
  • ICU, ER, Telemetry, and PICU nurses must read and interpret telemetry/monitoring equipment
  • Charge nurse present on all units
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs available with ratios ranging from 1:8 to 1:10 depending on unit and shift

Scheduling & Shifts

  • Shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • No self-scheduling; block scheduling attempted but not guaranteed
  • Weekend shifts as needed
  • Holiday coverage as needed
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Mid-shift floating possible; travelers are first to float and may be reassigned to different units or facilities during shifts

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Meet and greet on day 1 of orientation
  • 3 shifts of inpatient orientation specific to unit/department

Additional Notes

  • Dress code: No specific scrub color required; must be clean and professional
  • Facilities are within a 50-mile radius; candidates must reside outside this radius to be eligible
  • Safe parking available at all locations
  • Facilities are approximately 20 minutes apart and accessible via interstate

This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with critical care and float pool assignments who have prior travel experience and are flexible with floating between units and facilities.

L&D Unit is Traveler friendly for CST roll as well as RN roll. Work load is very manageable. Great staff support.

Cons
