Job Opportunity: RN Float Pool (MedSurg, Tele, PCU) - Arizona

Location

  • Prescott, Arizona

Job Description

  • Float between Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Telemetry (Tele), and Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) units.
  • Includes inpatient holding in Emergency Department.
  • Work across two campuses (East and West).
  • Units include MedSurg Tele, PCU, Stepdown, and ICU patients.

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years experience in Med/Surg and Telemetry.
  • At least 1 year experience in PCU setting.
  • Current state RN license.
  • ACLS and BLS certifications required.
  • Must pass dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing.

Patient Population & Care

  • Geriatric and orthopedic patients.
  • Post-procedural patients from cath lab (e.g., post-MI, post-cardiac cath, CABG post-op day 3-4).
  • Care includes managing groin sites in stepdown unit.

Nursing Details

  • Nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • PCU: 1:4
    • MedSurg Tele: 1:5-6
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin.
  • Charge nurses present on each unit but do not take patient assignments.
  • Nurse aides are utilized in all settings.

Equipment & Monitoring

  • Respiratory support: CPAP or BiPAP at night in MedSurg; CPAP, BiPAP, and Heated High Flow in PCU.
  • Telemetry monitors on unit; monitor techs monitor PCU and MedSurg Tele.
  • Nurses must be able to interpret cardiac strips.

Scheduling & Shifts

  • Shift hours: 7 AM to 7 PM (AM and PM shifts).
  • Schedule published 6 weeks in advance, 4 weeks at a time.
  • Night shift may allow block scheduling.
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
  • Holiday coverage included in permanent staff rotation.
  • No call or standby requirements.
  • Assignments communicated by text message 2 hours before shift start.
  • Travel time between campuses approximately 20-25 minutes.
  • Scrub dress code: currently solid color professional scrubs; transitioning to navy scrubs per upcoming guidelines.

Orientation

  • 8-hour general hospital orientation day.
  • 12-hour shifts for orientation on West MedTele and PCU units.
  • East campus orientation similar but smaller and easier to navigate.

Additional Notes

  • Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles.
  • Candidates cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year.
