Registered Nurse (RN) – ICU/PCU
Location: Prescott Valley, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts (0700/1900 – 1930/0730), 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Friday and Saturday for nights)
Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation to distribute holidays fairly
Call/Standby: Staff rotates standby turns if census is low
Unit Details
- Multi Care Unit combining ICU, PCU, and Med Surg Trauma (MST) patients on one unit (no floating between units within the unit)
- Unit size: 10 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity:
- ICU: 1:2
- PCU: 1:4
- MST: 1:5-6 (if no nurse aide, RN provides primary care at 1:3 ratio)
- Nurse aides support 10-15 patients; if no aide, RN provides primary care to PCU & MST patients
- Remote Monitor Techs support PCU & MST patients; RNs monitor ICU patients and perform 12-lead EKGs
- Respiratory Therapy support available for vents, BiPAP, CPAP
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Medical ICU patients with:
- Sepsis
- Suicide attempts
- Drug or alcohol withdrawal
- COPD
- Respiratory arrest
- Pneumonia
- COVID-19
- Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Post-op complications
- Blood pressure or heart rate abnormalities
- PCU patients requiring non-titratable infusions to maintain heart rate or blood pressure
Required Certifications & Exams
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- Must pass dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing (failure results in 6-month disqualification)
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years ICU experience required
- Candidates with 1 year ICU plus 1 year PCU/Med Surg experience from larger facilities may be considered if skills are strong
- RNs must be able to titrate drips, including sedation, vasopressors, and insulin
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and may not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any related facilities within the past year
- Cannot have worked permanently at related facilities within the last 12 months
- Floating required to Emergency Care MST & Pediatric units for adult MST patients, and to a nearby campus ICU/PCU to maintain competency
- Floating notice: 2 hours prior to floating
- Dress code: Any scrub color except camouflage
- Orientation includes hospital and unit-specific training based on shift and float assignments
