Registered Nurse (PCU RN) - Night Shift

Location: Beaver Dam, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week

Unit Overview

• Unit Type: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Intermediate Care (IMC) / Medical-Surgical
• Beds: 12 beds plus 4 ICU rooms (average census ~8 patients)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • ICU: 1:3
  • IMC/PCU: 1:3-4
  • Med-Surg: 1:5
  • Team nursing with RN and LPN managing up to 7 patients total
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Pneumonia/COVID, post-op knees and hips, falls
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Ventilator patients transferred to higher level of care
• Telemetry: Remote telemetry monitoring; RNs responsible for reading and interpreting cardiac strips

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Wisconsin
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
• Prior ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience acceptable in lieu of PCU experience
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Experience with Cerner electronic medical records system

Additional Job Details

• Charge Nurse Role: Charge nurse typically takes a small patient assignment; travelers may be asked to fill charge nurse duties
• CNA Support: 1 CNA assigned depending on census (usually if >6 patients)
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling with support from a scheduler; flexibility required to fill gaps in permanent staff schedule; block scheduling considered but not guaranteed
• Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday Requirement: Work 2 out of every 3 holidays
• On-Call/Standby: Yes, with 45-minute response time; less likely if willing to float to other areas such as the Emergency Department
• Floating: Floating is optional; if not floating, may be sent home and lose hours
• Dress Code: Any solid color scrub
• Orientation: 4 hours computer-based training plus 8 hours floor training
• Timekeeping: Must clock in and out at the facility
• Prior Employment Note: If previously employed at this facility, must have a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying
