Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery

Location: White Plains, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 34 hours per week

Job Overview

• Labor and Delivery RN needed for a 13-week travel assignment.
• Must be able to scrub and circulate for C-sections performed on the unit.
• Unit includes 14 beds: 5 triage/inpatient, 6 labor, and 2 OR beds.
• High-risk obstetrics patients primarily; low-risk antepartum patients are on a separate OB side.
• Nurses perform full assessments and exams but do not insert intrauterine pressure catheters (IUPC).
• Fast-paced environment requiring strong clinical skills and high-risk OB experience.
• Nurses may float to OB or nursery but will not take patients outside L&D.
• Orientation specific to the floor lasts 2-3 shifts.

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required.
• Preferred: RN-C certification.
• Experience with high-risk obstetrics and C-section procedures.
• Ability to scrub and circulate in the OR.
• Strong customer service skills are essential.

Work Environment & Support

• Nurse-to-patient ratios follow AWONN guidelines.
• Charge nurses typically do not take patients and serve as unit leaders 3 days per week.
• Scrub techs are used instead of nurse aides.
• Hospitalist or intensivist coverage available in-house 3 nights per week.
• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services available 24/7.
• Electronic Medical Records: Meditech and GE (dual charting systems).
• Scrub colors provided by the hospital.
• Weekend requirement: every 3rd weekend for day shifts; night shift weekends are Friday and Saturday (3 weekend shifts in a 4-week period).

Additional Notes

• Nurses are expected to be comfortable with a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
• Must be able to handle multiple responsibilities including patient exams and assessments.
• The unit emphasizes customer service; candidates should be prepared to discuss their experience with patient interaction and assignment types during the interview.
