Job Description

The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) works collaboratively with residents and care providers to deliver physical therapy services aimed at maximizing residents' functional abilities and independence. The role involves performing therapeutic procedures under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist, following established treatment plans and protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform therapeutic procedures as ordered by a physician or healthcare provider, under mandatory supervision of a physical therapist.
• Treat residents according to department protocols and therapeutic plans, including setting and progressing toward functional goals.
• Collaborate with residents and caregivers to incorporate their input into treatment sessions.
• Communicate changes or concerns promptly to the evaluating therapist.
• Attend relevant team meetings and document all therapeutic interactions timely and accurately.
• Recommend and instruct on the use of assistive devices.
• Provide education to residents and caregivers, documenting teaching outcomes.
• Comply with Medicare, Medicaid, and other reimbursement regulations.
• Assist in developing new rehabilitation programs and services.
• Maintain cleanliness and infection control in clinical areas and equipment.
• Maintain required licenses, certifications, and complete annual compliance training.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Physical Therapy Assistant license in Maine
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant
• Physical Therapy Assistant experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Associate degree

Physical Demands

• Ability to perform tasks involving sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds; lifting over 50 pounds requires assistance.
• Frequent lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds.
