Job Opportunity: Central Sterile Technician
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Responsible for performing sterilization procedures on medical instruments and equipment following established procedures, infection control standards, industry standards, recommended practices, and regulatory requirements. This position does not require patient care.
Essential Functions
- Process specialty and general instruments.
- Reset instrument sets without error.
- Decontaminate instruments and equipment according to procedure.
- Maintain Central Sterile Department stock levels.
- Prepare and assemble surgical trays and equipment following established tray listings for issue, storage, or further processing.
- Communicate instrument repair needs to supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician, including experience within the last year.
- Certification as CRCST, CBSPD, or HSPA required.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Documentation of MMR vaccination or proof of immunity.
- TB test documentation within 3 months of start date (skin test or blood test) and updated if there is a break longer than 6 months.
- Physician health statement signed within 365 days of start date and updated if break exceeds 6 months.
- Hepatitis B vaccination strongly preferred (3 doses or proof of immunity or declination).
- Tdap vaccination preferred within the last 10 years.
Background and Verification Requirements
- Criminal background check within 45 days prior to start and updated if break exceeds 6 months.
- Massachusetts CORI background check within 30 days prior to start and updated if break exceeds 6 months.
- Social Security Number trace as part of background check.
- National sex offender registry check within 30 days prior to start and updated annually.
- Exclusion checks against OIG, GSA, and state Medicaid exclusion lists within 30 days prior to start and annually.
- Verification of highest level of education achieved.
- Resume including past 7 years of work experience with city and state.
- Two professional references within 4 years, including at least one supervisor or higher.
- Skills checklist completed within 1 year of submission.
- Confirmation of assignment form required for all initial assignments and extensions.
Additional Notes
- A professional badge photo meeting specific criteria is required for onboarding.
- Name change documentation may be required if credentials do not match legal name.
- Positive TB test requires documentation of a negative chest x-ray after the positive test.
- TB symptom survey required if positive TB test, updated annually.
