Job Opportunity: Operating Room Surgical Technician

Location: Salem, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift:

• Days: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
• Evenings: 1:00 PM – 11:30 PM (1-2 rotations per 4-week cycle)
• Weekend rotation: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM with call from 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM every 4th weekend
• 2-3 weekday calls per 4-week schedule
• Rotating shifts required (approximately 2-3 shifts every 4 weeks)
• No night call

Unit Description

• Level II Trauma center in a complex community setting
• Patient population includes Pediatric, Adult, and Geriatric
• Bed count: 15
• Daily census: Approximately 30-40 patients
• Clinician to patient ratio: 1:1
• Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC
• Floating: Not required

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 2 years of Operating Room experience (higher end of 1-2 years stated)
• Certification: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required (NBSTSA or NCCT only)
• Licensure: Must have appropriate surgical technologist certification/license as required by the state of Massachusetts
• Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) only
  • Influenza vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 15) with no exemptions
• Health Requirements:

  • N95 Fit Test within 365 days of start date, updated annually
  • Documentation of MMR immunity or vaccination
  • TB test (skin or blood test) within 3 months of start date, updated if >6 month break
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or immunity strongly preferred
  • Health statement signed by MD/DO/NP/PA within 365 days of start date, updated if >6 month break
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years preferred
• Background Checks:

  • Criminal background check within 45 days prior to start
  • Massachusetts CORI background check within 30 days prior to start
  • National sex offender registry check within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
  • Exclusion checks (OIG, GSA, Medicaid) within 30 days prior to start and annually
• Other Requirements:

  • Respirator Medical Clearance attestation (if fit test required)
  • Submission of resume including past 7 years of work experience
  • Two professional references within 4 years, including at least one supervisor-level
  • Skills checklist completed within 1 year of submission
  • Candidate submission coversheet required for initial assignment

Job Responsibilities

• Provide surgical technologist support in the Operating Room
• Participate in call rotations on weekends and weekday evenings
• No cardiac monitoring responsibilities (no EKG or telemetry)
• Work in a trauma and complex community hospital setting

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
• Rotating shifts and call responsibilities are mandatory
• No floating to other units required
