Job Description

Provide nursing care in the Labor and Delivery unit at Ascension Saint Alexius Medical Center.


Required Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – Must be AHA certified
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – Must be AHA certified
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Must be AHA/American Academy of Pediatrics certified
  • Current Nursing License – Nursys verification required within 30 days prior to start
  • License/Certificate Verification – Primary source verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Driver's License/State ID – Must be current and valid

Required Exams & Testing

  • Ascension Pharmacology Exam – Minimum 80% score, updated every 3 years
  • Ascension Specialty Exam – Minimum 80% or national benchmark passing score, updated every 3 years
  • Ascension Core Competencies – Includes HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80% score, updated yearly
  • Ascension Skills Checklist – Clinical skills checklist, completed within one year of start and updated annually
  • Ascension Cerner Test-Out – Cerner system competency test
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen – Includes testing for 12 drug categories, completed within 30 days prior to start and updated annually

Onboarding & Professional Requirements

  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation
  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding – Completed onsite
  • Ascension Biometric Consent
  • Ascension Nova StatStrip – Pre-hire modules for non-allied positions
  • Ascension Badge Photo – Forward-facing headshot with white or blue background
  • Ascension Profile – Resume or professional profile submission
  • Ascension 2 Professional References – At least two professional references required
  • Ascension Criminal Background Check – Includes SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, national sex offender check; updated annually
  • Ascension EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) – Run within 90 days of start and rerun if break in service > 90 days
  • Ascension Education Verification – Verification of relevant education within 90 days of start
  • Ascension Confirmation of Assignment – Provided upon initial assignment and updates for extensions
  • Ascension Employment Verification – Third-party employment verification for past 7 years, updated annually

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted
  • Hepatitis B – Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Varicella – Proof of two vaccines, serological immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider; no declinations accepted
  • Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) – Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted
  • Influenza Vaccine – Recommended during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement
  • Positive PPD / Negative Chest X-Ray and Annual TB Questionnaire – Must provide positive IGRA or PPD results, chest x-ray within one year, and annual TB questionnaire
  • 2 Step PPD OR IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) – Required within 30 days prior to start
  • Fit Test – Required for all travelers; preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite
  • Health Statement – Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • Ascension Color Vision – Completed prior to start and updated every 3 years

Additional Notes

  • Pharmacology and specialty exams allow only two attempts.
  • All required documentation must be uploaded and verified prior to or at onboarding.
  • Some onboarding checklists and attestations are completed onsite or by the agency.
  • Flu vaccine exemptions require mask wearing during flu season.

This position requires thorough compliance with Ascension Health’s credentialing, testing, and health requirements to ensure patient safety and regulatory adherence.
