NICU Charge Registered Nurse
Overview
- Travel/contract role
- Night shift: 3x12 hours, 19:00–07:30
- Bedside and charge responsibilities
- Float required to L&D, with possible floating between OCM and SMC
- Weekend shifts scheduled as needed
- Local candidates within 50 miles may be considered at the local rate
- No first-time travelers
Experience
- 3 years of NICU experience required
- Experience should include Level III NICU, Level III or higher, or Level IV-focused experience
- Experience with 1:1 and 1:2 care and high-risk deliveries/admissions is expected
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care (3 years of experience)
- NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience in Charge roles
- Labor and Delivery experience

- High-risk deliveries
- Neonatal intensive care
- Neonates at 34 weeks
- Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Blood glucose monitoring and insulin administration
- Phototherapy
- Breastfeeding support and handling of breast milk
- Bottle, breast, and gavage feedings
- Management of oral, nasogastric, and nasojejunal tubes
- Isolation precautions
- Sepsis workup
- Blood and blood product administration
- Arterial line management
- Central line blood draws
- IV insertion and maintenance
- UAC and UVC management
- Neonatal dosage calculations
- Antibiotics, antivirals, anti-seizure medications, and IV vasopressors
- Lumbar puncture assistance
- Neonatal abstinence syndrome
- Seizure disorders
- APGAR scoring
- Developmental care
- Patient and family teaching
- Phlebotomy
- Thermoregulation
- Bubble CPAP, HFNC, high-frequency ventilation, inhaled nitric oxide, chest tube management, oscillators, tracheostomy management, Vapotherm, and ventilator management
- Endotracheal tube suctioning
- Respiratory distress syndrome
Additional Notes
- EPIC documentation familiarity is required
- Omnicell is used for medication management
