Job Description

WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital is seeking Labor & Delivery Registered Nurses with the following qualifications and skills:

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHOLL Intermediate
• Epic charting system experience required
• 1st-time travelers accepted
• 2 clinical references (at least 1 leadership reference from assignments within the last year)
• Separation period of 6 months from previous assignment
• Floating to patient safety sitter role as needed

• AWHOLL Advanced
• FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring)

Required Skills

• Assist with sterile speculum exam (effacement, dilation, station, presentation)
• NST (Non-Stress Tests)
• Reflex checks, edema assessment, clonus
• Sterile vaginal exam
• Triage of obstetrical patients
• Use of External and Internal Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
• Management of diabetes mellitus, multiple gestation, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia
• VBAC management / trial of labor
• Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Administration of blood & blood products
• Starting and maintaining IVs
• Administration of antihypertensives, magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin (oxytocin)
• Assist with vaginal delivery and circulate/recover for C-section
• Newborn assessment
• Epidural anesthesia support
• Pain assessment & management
• Breastfeeding/lactation support
• Fundus, lochia, perineum care
• Couplet care
• Isolation precautions and PPE use

Shift Details

• 12-hour shifts
• 1845 to 0715 (Evening/Night shift)

Orientation

• 1 day of orientation (12 hours), scheduled based on availability
• Compliance items must be completed timely; no start date delays will be honored

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Candidates must provide and maintain the following:

Certifications & Licenses

• Current BLS, ACLS, NRP certifications
• State nursing license verification (primary source)
• NURSYS verification
• Other certifications as applicable (e.g., TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification)

Background Checks & Clearances

• 7-year criminal background check (including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender registry) within 30 days of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM checks within 30 days of start
• Pennsylvania-specific clearances: Child Abuse Search, Department of Human Services Fingerprint Results, PATCH Search Results
• Fingerprinting (PA FBI) required within 1 year of start; candidates may start with results pending but must have results on file within 45 days or will be removed from assignment
• Pending background check attestation if results are not complete at start

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 90 days of start, signed by MD/DO/NP/PA
• Immunizations or positive titers for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (positive titer or full vaccine series)
  • Varicella
• Negative TB test (QGold or TSpot) within 90 days; PPD not accepted
• Seasonal flu vaccination or valid medical/religious exemption required annually
• COVID-19 vaccination or valid exemption/declination
• Drug testing: Negative 9-panel within 1 year (Aya requirement only)
• Respiratory safety clearance within 1 year, renewed annually
