Job Description
WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital is seeking Labor & Delivery Registered Nurses with the following qualifications and skills:
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHOLL Intermediate
- Epic charting system experience required
- 1st-time travelers accepted
- 2 clinical references (at least 1 leadership reference from assignments within the last year)
- Separation period of 6 months from previous assignment
- Floating to patient safety sitter role as needed

- FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring)

Required Skills
- Assist with sterile speculum exam (effacement, dilation, station, presentation)
- NST (Non-Stress Tests)
- Reflex checks, edema assessment, clonus
- Sterile vaginal exam
- Triage of obstetrical patients
- Use of External and Internal Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
- Management of diabetes mellitus, multiple gestation, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia
- VBAC management / trial of labor
- Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Administration of blood & blood products
- Starting and maintaining IVs
- Administration of antihypertensives, magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin (oxytocin)
- Assist with vaginal delivery and circulate/recover for C-section
- Newborn assessment
- Epidural anesthesia support
- Pain assessment & management
- Breastfeeding/lactation support
- Fundus, lochia, perineum care
- Couplet care
- Isolation precautions and PPE use

Shift Details
- 12-hour shifts
- 1845 to 0715 (Evening/Night shift)
Orientation
- 1 day of orientation (12 hours), scheduled based on availability
- Compliance items must be completed timely; no start date delays will be honored

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
Candidates must provide and maintain the following:
Certifications & Licenses
- Current BLS, ACLS, NRP certifications
- State nursing license verification (primary source)
- NURSYS verification
- Other certifications as applicable (e.g., TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification)
Background Checks & Clearances
- 7-year criminal background check (including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender registry) within 30 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM checks within 30 days of start
- Pennsylvania-specific clearances: Child Abuse Search, Department of Human Services Fingerprint Results, PATCH Search Results
- Fingerprinting (PA FBI) required within 1 year of start; candidates may start with results pending but must have results on file within 45 days or will be removed from assignment
- Pending background check attestation if results are not complete at start
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 90 days of start, signed by MD/DO/NP/PA
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or full vaccine series)
- Varicella
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSpot) within 90 days; PPD not accepted
- Seasonal flu vaccination or valid medical/religious exemption required annually
- COVID-19 vaccination or valid exemption/declination
- Drug testing: Negative 9-panel within 1 year (Aya requirement only)
- Respiratory safety clearance within 1 year, renewed annually

- Photo for badge (passport-style)
- Medical Statement of Ability to Work (facility-specific form accepted)
- WellSpan Health Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, Commitment to Health & Wellness, Non-Employee Affidavit, I9 Attestation, Documentation Attestation
- Completion of WellSpan LMS modules prior to start
- New hire orientation completion by end of first day
