Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry Unit

Location: Marrero, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Work Schedule Details

• Unit: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
• Patient Population: General MS, Diabetes, Renal Insufficiency, some Overnight Orthopedics, Vascular Insufficiency, Wound Care, and Stroke Unit backup
• Shift: Night shift, 4x12 hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Scheduling Options:

  • Alternating 3x12 and 4x12 shifts every other week, or
  • Straight 4x12 shifts every week
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:6 (1:4 when managing cardiac drips)
• Weekend Requirement: Yes
• Call Requirement: No
• Float Requirement: Yes
• Holiday Requirement: Work at least 2 of 3 major holidays

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
• Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience, with telemetry experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Competencies & Exams

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (must score 80% or higher, updated annually)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (must score 80% or higher, updated annually)
• Core competency exams (Parts I, II, and III) required and updated annually

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start (two-step skin test or equivalent)
• Annual TB questionnaire required
• Tdap vaccine within last 10 years (declinations accepted with appropriate documentation)
• Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR): Proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer; if low titer, 2 boosters required (may start pending second booster)
• Varicella: Proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer; if low titer, 2 boosters required (may start pending second booster)
• Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination (declinations must be signed within 12 months of start)
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31) for new starts beginning 10/1/2025; exemptions and declinations accepted with proper documentation
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (comprehensive panel including marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, etc.)

Background & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID matching all candidate documentation
• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including social security trace, nationwide and county criminal checks, sex offender registry, federal databases, and FACIS Level 3
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Employment application with 7 years of work history, no gaps over 30 days
• E-Verify/I9 documentation required
• State RN license verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start

Appearance & Dress Code

• Scrubs: Navy blue or navy blue combined with white

Additional Notes

• Return to Office (RTO) time off requests must be less than 5 days or added to the end of the contract
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification not required for this unit
• Physical exam not required by employer but may be required by placement agency within 12 months of start

This position is ideal for experienced MS/Telemetry RNs comfortable with telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and working night shifts in a fast-paced hospital environment.
