Job Opportunity: Step-Down Registered Nurse
Location: Auburn, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day (3 shifts per 12 hours, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Step-Down unit with patient ratio approximately 1:4-5
- Common diagnoses:
- Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
- Post heart catheterization
- Post vascular procedures
- Respiratory failure requiring BiPAP/CPAP/Vapotherm
- Cardiac dysrhythmias
Unit Procedures & Expectations
- Post-heart catheterization care including TR bands
- Monitoring after vascular procedures
- Frequent vital signs and neurovascular checks
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State
- Minimum 2 years of Step-Down nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Cardiac/Emergency skills including:
- Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- PICC line management
- Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
- Cardiac drip titration
- Neurological management including CVA/Acute Stroke care
Licensure
- Primary source license verification required prior to start
Assessments & Testing
- Must pass a telemetry assessment (minimum 80%) on cardiac rhythm interpretation on first day of orientation
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 1 year covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start
- Drug screening (9 panel) within 30 days of start
- Physical exam completed within 12 months prior to start, signed by licensed provider
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually
- Annual tuberculosis screening questionnaire and negative TB test or chest x-ray as applicable
- Required immunizations or documented immunity:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years or declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (during flu season)
- COVID vaccine or declination
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Review and sign facility code of conduct, patient abuse reporting, confidentiality/non-disclosure agreement, and orientation packet acknowledgment
- Complete automated dispensing cabinet security training for Pyxis access
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references within 3 years of hire
- Skills checklist verification required
- New York State Nurse Aide Registry verification (facility requirement)
- New York State Medicaid Exclusion List check
Notes
- Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted (with adjusted pay rate)
- No blocked scheduling; work every other weekend and every other holiday (EOW & EOH)
