ICU Registered Nurse (Night Shift) - Travel/Contract
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Night shift: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:1 to 1:2
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years ICU experience (highest required years of experience)
- Proficient in IV starts
- Experience with telemetry
- Competency with ventilators
- EPIC electronic health record system experience required
Certifications Required
- BLS (AHA only; Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
- ACLS (AHA only; Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (AHA certifications only; must meet CE hour requirements)
- NIHSS Certification
- All certifications must be current and verifiable
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous travel nursing experience
- Proficiency in EPIC documentation system
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
- NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire annually)
- Tdap vaccination (adult dose after age 11/12)
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, and Rubella (with booster requirements if low titer)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (signed declination acceptable)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); decliners must wear masks
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
- Annual fit mask test required for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 (valid for entire assignment length)
Competency Exams
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required for contracts signed 5/19/2025 and beyond
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, and Abuse reporting form and training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually for new contracts signed 11/7/2024 and beyond
Parking
- Parking permits available for purchase (cost and options subject to change)
Notes
- No on-call duties
- Background checks and fingerprinting results may take 1-2 weeks to process; delays possible if hits occur
- Fingerprinting must be completed at approved locations; out-of-state travelers may require mail-in fingerprinting with longer processing times
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Competency with ventilators
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with strong critical care skills, EPIC proficiency, and the ability to work night shifts in a fast-paced environment. Prior travel nursing experience is preferred but not mandatory.
