Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Columbus, Ohio
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU)
- Location: Columbus, Ohio
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), including weekdays and some weekends, every other weekend off
- Unit: East Tower 5, 24 beds (9 cardiac stepdown beds, 9 PCU beds, 15 MS beds)
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:3-5
- Floating: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience (highest requirement)
- Experience with cardiac care, IV insulin, and glucose tolerance testing (GTT) preferred
- Skills required: IV start, telemetry, intermediate care
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system required
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current RN license in Ohio
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM) – verify per unit specifics
Competencies & Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exams
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (except certain excluded units)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (must be completed within 1 year of start)
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
- Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire)
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (titer or vaccine series)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policy
- Annual fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- License verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
- NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit (must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Telemetry experience and skills
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- IV start skills
- Intermediate care skills
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
