ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Call Requirements: None
- Request Time Off (RTO): Maximum 5 days total, no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
- Floating: Mandatory float facility; ICU RNs will float between various ICU units including Burn ICU, CCU, Medical ICU, SICU, Neuro ICU, and may float to Medical-Surgical units as needed
- Orientation: First week includes orientation and precepting on day shift
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background Check: Within 12 months, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; Illinois fingerprinting required if indicated
- Drug Testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; marijuana testing not required
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year; medical or religious exemptions require approval for PAPR use
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 12 months
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months; PPDs not accepted after 12/15/2025
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if low titer
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if low titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – May 4)
- Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology, color blind testing, and general competency exams required within 12 months of start
- Facility-Specific Forms: Must complete facility-specific RN forms with legal name and required signatures
Additional Notes
- Locals within 75 miles are accepted and preferred
- No block scheduling for shifts
- References and employment application required per state and agency standards
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with floating across multiple critical care units and working night shifts in a high-acuity Level 1 Trauma Center environment.
