Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Milford, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with Emergency Department experience to work night shifts in the ER. This is a travel contract position requiring a Massachusetts nursing license and specific certifications.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Massachusetts
  • Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Schedule Details

  • Night shift
  • 3 shifts per week, each 12 hours
  • Every other weekend (EOW) and every other holiday (EOH) rotation

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, county searches, national criminal search, and federal exclusions.
    • Massachusetts Statewide iCORI clearance within 30 days prior to start.
  • Education Verification: Third-party verification of highest completed education required; transcripts acceptable if verification is unperformable (diplomas not accepted).
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, including physician statement of fitness without restrictions.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable.
    • Required immunizations or documented immunity/declinations for:
      • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
      • Hepatitis B
      • Varicella
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
      • Flu vaccine or facility-specific declination (required during flu season)
      • COVID-19 vaccination (most recent) or facility-specific declination
    • Drug testing within 30 days of start, covering a comprehensive panel of substances.
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required for all RNs.
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 6 months of start and annually thereafter for RNs working in acute care areas including ED. Failure to pass on first attempt may result in cancellation.
  • Pass/Fail Testing:
    • Medication exam required on first day of orientation with minimum 80% score.
    • Telemetry exam required only if working in telemetry-monitored units (not required for ER).
  • References: Two professional references within the last three years.
  • Employment History: Application must include 7 years of employment history with explanations for gaps over 30 days.
  • Skills Checklist: Required prior to start and updated annually as applicable.

Preferred Certifications (Not Required)

  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred for ER nurses.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates declining certain vaccines must complete facility-specific declination forms; some declinations are not accepted for pediatric, maternity, or NICU areas (not applicable here).
  • Valid government-issued photo ID required.
  • Compliance with all facility-specific and state requirements is mandatory.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced Emergency Department setting with a supportive team on a travel contract basis.
