Registered Nurse - Step Down Unit (Travel/Contract)

Location: Beaufort, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Night shift on stepdown unit
• Must have ICU experience as traveler will be floated to ICU
• Floating within the hospital required (high ratios and frequent floating)
• Patient ratio approximately 1:4-5
• Unit has 21 beds
• Non-titrating drips including Amiodarone, NTG, Cardizem, Lopressor, Cardene
• Care for patients with vascular procedures (fem-pop, CEA), NSTEMI, post cardiac cath with intervention
• Manage CIWA patients receiving IVP Ativan (no presidex)
• Experience with peritoneal dialysis, stable BiPAP, heated high flow <80%, home ventilators (Trilogy)
• Wound care, nebulizers, hemodialysis in dialysis department
• EMR system: Meditech
• Every other week (EOW) schedule required
• Orientation every Wednesday
• Scrubs: Royal Blue and White
• Must be willing to work within a 50-mile radius

Required Qualifications

• Valid South Carolina RN license at time of submission
• Minimum ICU experience required (years not explicitly stated, but ICU experience mandatory)
• ACLS certification (AHA only)
• BLS certification (AHA only)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
• Prior travel experience preferred but not required

Additional Requirements

• Must be comfortable with floating between stepdown and ICU units
• Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands of position
• Background checks including criminal, SSN trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender check
• Drug testing (10 panel) within 30 days of start for new candidates
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year or TB questionnaire on file
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella titers or vaccinations (or declination)
  • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (or declination)
  • Varicella titer or vaccinations (or declination)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (for placements starting on or after 9/10/2025)
  • COVID vaccination or declination
• Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
• Completion of facility-specific orientation and competency modules prior to start
• Badge photo meeting facility standards required

Work Environment & Notes

• High patient acuity with complex cardiac and dialysis patients
• Floating is a significant part of the role; candidates not comfortable with floating should not apply
• Facility uses Meditech EMR system
• Orientation and training modules must be completed before first shift
• Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with floating and managing complex cardiac and stepdown patients in a fast-paced hospital environment.
