Pros
- MS6 staff is very team-motivated, the floor nurses work together incredibly well and make it easy to look forward to work. I cannot emphasize how important this is, and the difference it makes in a tough shift. - Ratios on the floor are typically 1:3-4, which can be busy but more than manageable. - There is a wide variety of diagnoses that we treat and the floor offers so many opportunities to learn about different populations and treatments. Many staff members have said that working on MS6 will set you up for success to work anywhere. - I started here as a new grad and am only leaving due to my family’s plan to move out of state. If I were to stay in CT, I would continue to work at Connecticut Children’s.
Cons
- Management on MS6 is not very good, and the PCA help is incredibly variable depending on which staff is working a shift. - There is a lot of broken equipment that you have to deal with. - Typically expected to float to other units every few weeks. - MS6 gets a lot of behavioral psych patients, which can be challenging.
