Job Description
- Work on a fast-paced Adult Admission Inpatient Unit functioning as an admission unit next to the Emergency Department.
- Unit acts as a holding area for admitted patients from the ED until placement on one of the progressive care units.
- Patient ratio: 1 RN to 4-5 patients.
- Unit has 17 beds plus up to 8 hall beds.
- Patient population is diverse, covering all specialties except ICU-level patients.
- Responsibilities include monitoring and interpreting telemetry, managing dysrhythmias, and handling various medical equipment.
- Time management skills are essential.
- Floating required within scope to adjacent ED admitted patients, ICU for SAC assignments, and inpatient PCU areas.
- Relief charge nurse duties may be required.
- No on-call required.
- Locals within 100 miles are not accepted.
- Pending license accepted.
- COVID vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with proper documentation.
- Block scheduling may be considered.
- Guaranteed contracted hours per week with limited call-offs allowed during the assignment.
- New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks.
- A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of travel work, whichever comes first.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Mexico (pending license accepted).
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Direct Observation Unit (DOU) within the last year.
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Successful completion of Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid non-local driver’s license required (identification cards not accepted).
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification, and fingerprinting (done onsite during orientation).
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- COVID vaccination (with exemptions accepted)
- Flu vaccine (year-round, with exemptions accepted)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer required)
- Hepatitis B (declination, series, or titer accepted)
- Fit mask test required within 1 year of start (specific N95 masks accepted; PAPR accommodation available if needed).
- Completion of facility-specific forms including traveler compliance, emergency contact, confidentiality, and Cerner training attestation.
- Employment application with at least 3 years of work history.
- Two professional references within the last 3 years.
- Work history verification for 3 years required.

- No RQI certifications accepted for ACLS/BLS.
- Facility uses Cerner for charting.
- Parking is free.
- Facility is a Level I Trauma, Children's, Teaching, Short-term Acute Care hospital.
- Candidates must be able to handle a fast-paced environment with frequent patient turnover.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Floating and relief charge responsibilities require flexibility and leadership skills.
