Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with a specialty in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to provide care for infants including premature and surgical patients. The unit cares for infants up to 12 months old and includes specialized procedures and equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a Level 3 or 4 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), including experience within the last year
- Experience working with neonate patients
- Experience with ventilators
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Work Details
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15), 36 hours per week.
- Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 2-4 patients.
- Call Requirement: No call.
- Float Requirement: May float to Pediatrics, PICU, or nursery caring for infants up to 12 months.
- Weekend Requirement: 3 Fridays, 3 Saturdays, and 3 Sundays over a 6-week period.
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling based on unit needs.
- Orientation: 24 hours of unit orientation provided.
- Dress Code: Navy blue or white scrubs.

- Premature infants (as early as 22 weeks gestation)
- Surgical infants
- Hypoxic injury
- Therapeutic hypothermia
- Nitric oxide therapy
- Umbilical arterial and venous catheters (UAC/UVC)
- Peripherally inserted central lines (PCLs)
- Broviac catheters
- Tracheostomies
- Gastrostomy tubes (GTT)
- Ostomies
Equipment & Unit Systems
- Tecotherm
- BCPAP (Bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure)
- Ram NC (Nasal Cannula)
- Alaris IV pumps
- Med Fusion for feedings
- Servo ventilators
- High-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV)
- Baby Leo incubators
- Giraffe warmers
Unit Systems: Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR, 4P
Compliance & Requirements
- Background checks including local, federal, and national databases required.
- Education verification for highest degree earned specific to nursing.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; updated annually if positive TB history.
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training required.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start.
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season.
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and compliance training modules.
Additional Notes
- No Return to Origin (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation.
- Unit accepts 13-week contracts only.
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for travel acute care nurses.
- Medication competency and other clinical competencies may be required as applicable.
