Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Medical Surgical / Rehabilitation Registered Nurse
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 5 patients
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: As needed per facility
  • Floating: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Rotating Holidays: Yes
  • Electronic Medical Record System: EPIC experience required

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience in a Rehabilitation setting
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system

Licensure

  • Must hold an active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Ohio

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including FBI and state fingerprinting (BCI/FBI) required prior to start
  • Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA) required
  • Monthly monitoring through federal exclusion lists (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health documentation required:
    • Tdap (adult dose)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination accepted)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams as required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if needed)

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Annual acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies
  • Annual completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training
  • Annual review and acknowledgment of ethics and compliance policies
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment annually
  • References: Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leader (charge nurse acceptable as second reference)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required

Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared to complete fingerprinting using the specified state codes and processes.
  • Background check and fingerprinting results must be clear prior to assignment start; pending results require attestation.
  • Candidates with gaps in employment over 30 days may require updated health and background documentation.
  • Travel experience is preferred but not mandatory for this position.
